Following on from my blog yesterday, I have the details of the radio play about dementia, and as it is such a wonderful production, it deserves another plug! Over the last 18 months, ECH has worked very closely with Adelaide based youth theatre company, Urban Myth, firstly to produce a stage play, Also a Mirror, and more recently to translate the stage play into a radio play. Very exciting, the radio play was recorded and produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation at their studios here in Adelaide and is due to be broadcast next Sunday June 24th at 3.05 pm. This will be repeated Thursday 28th, the same day it finds out if it wins an international award, for which it has been short listed. It will also be available streaming online.
You might be interested to know that Radio National has posted a web page for the radio play version of Also a Mirror. A 20 minute documentary on the making of the radio play precedes the actual radio play, airing at 2.40 pm, and is well worth listening to, especially because it includes excerpts of interviews with some of the clients and carers whose stories featured most prominently in the play. Both the play and the documentary will be available as podcasts (on an ongoing basis) or via streaming off the Radio National website (for 1 month after the broadcast).
The Radio National web page for the play can be found at the following: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/airplay/2012-06-24/3936028
The Radio National web page for the documentary can be found at: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/airplay/2012-06-24/4055966
Please feel free to send out these links to as many contacts as you wish! It would be great to add numbers to the audience of approximately 50,000 people who usually listen to Poetica broadcasts on Radio National on Sunday afternoons! Both the documentary and the play are wonderful tributes to the people with dementia who shared their stories, the young cast and all the artists involved in the stage play and translation of the stage play into a radio play.
