A few thoughts to ponder

  1. Live every day as if it is your last, just in case it is.
  2. We live until we die.
  3. One day at a time, working together, we can bring about change.
  4. Be the change you want to see.
  5. Are we being as kind to each other as possible?
  6. Offer unconditional love to your family and friends.
  7. Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
  8. All of us could take a lesson from the weather; it pays no attention to Criticism.
  9. Accept yourself, forgive yourself, love yourself.
  10. Forgive, forgive, forgive.
  11. Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200.00 and a substantial tax cut saves you $30.00?
  12. In the 60s, people took acid to make the world weird; now the world is Weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
  13. We know exactly where one cow with Mad-cow-disease is located among millions and millions of cows in America but we haven’t got a clue yet how to cure cancer or dementia.
  14. People with no backbone are the ones who talk about you behind your back.
  15. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is facing some kind of battle.
  16. The three R’s: Responsibility for self, Responsibility for others, Responsibility for all of your actions.
  17. Life is like a jar of Jalapeno peppers. What you do today, might Burn Your Arse Tomorrow.

And food for thought from the Dalai Lama…

The Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him the most.

Man – because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.

Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.

And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present,

the result being that he does not live in the present, or the future,

he lives as if he is never going to die and then he dies having never really lived.

  1. A post I thoroughly agree with Kate, and the underlying message of many of your points is that we need to accept death in order to live. As Irvin Yalom stated “though the physicality of death may destroy us, the idea of death can save us.” And as I say in my talk: one of the greatest gifts we have been given in life is the knowledge that we are going to die, but the problem is we do not use this knowledge correctly.
Hope all is well for you and Peter.

    • Thanks David, and all is going as well as possible with us both too, both living until we die. I have often wondered what you ended up buying for the ‘gift’ too by the way??!!

  2. Hi Kate were travelling to WA at present halfe way there. 🙂 and at the momemnet have email? Yes the greatest gift god gave us is His unconditional love to give “OUT. without it our humanism love just cant do the job eh.. In this illness where agitiation, irraitabilty and all consumming tiredness. those precious scriptures keep me coping.. using that unconditional love and remembering Oscar to be treated as I need to be treated to remain stable and “NICE” :).. We just all need daily reminding.. which Oscar and I have a daily mission statement to reapeat “daily” to each other. WISDOM keeps us proteceted. Towards “seizing” a frutiful day… overcoming our “challenges” ehhhh … be kind to yourself and Pete, and we will do the same xxxx
