Using other ways to communicate

Recently I was introduced to a Spanish woman, Susana Garcia who has been involved in setting up a blog Moving Your Soul, by Kay Bransford. Susana and I stay in touch via email, and she has sent me a video made about family’s experience of living with her father who has Alzheimer’s dementia. It is profoundly and deeply moving, and highlights another way to be with someone with dementia. Please watch this beautiful tribute to being with a person with dementia. My husband watched it yesterday, and wrote this to me;

“What a great video. Fantastically done. Hopefully with people showing respect, dignity this should be mandatory viewing within aged care.”

  3. Gloomychops here again. I so envy people whose relatives are still able to stand unaided and express positive reactions to their visitors. My darling sister can do neither of these things and it desperately upsets me. Lovely video.

  5. What a beautiful video and family! Also very neatly articulates a few of your previous posts Kate, particularly the, “the more relaxed you or the carer is, the more relaxed my father will be”. Simple stuff, but often overlooked or just not understood. Thanks for sharing this one.

    • Thanks Josh, yes it is wonderful, and I’m thrilled you think it articulates some of my blogs, that is quite a compliment! I’ve just watched it again with my carer, and we both cried. Susana and her family are so honourabe and loving, I feel Blessed to have been allowed into their world.
