VIP Survey: Architecture for Dementia in Education, Practice and Training (ADEPT)

For those who are new to my website or long time readers, todays blog is about a survey which is part of the ADEPT study. It emerged from a group of people keen to improve environmental design to ensure accessibility for ALL people with dementia.

Many are members of the Dementia Alliance International Environmental Design Special Interest Group (ED-SiG).

The goal of this project is to include environmental design in education, and I’m also hopeful DAI will consider sharing it with their networks of members who all live with dementia, and the many others who have signed up to their blogs, to support this important work.

The goal of the project is to include dementia design in university coursework, and professional training of architects and other professionals.

The project is being delivered through a formal partnership between Dementia Alliance International (DAI) and the University of Stirling, which has provided both ethical approval and access to institutional resources to ensure high-quality, credible research.

We launched the first invitations to the study about two weeks ago, starting with a post on LinkedIn, and are now extending distribution through our many networks, including professional and academic networks.

The success of the study will depend on reaching as many professionals as possible – across disciplines, sectors, and regions – but thankfully our group includes enthusiastic members located all around the world.

Dr Martin Quirke shared the following with the ED-SiG members recently:

“I would like to invite you to contribute to the ADEPT study (Architecture for Dementia in Education, Practice, and Training). This international study explores how professionals in architecture, planning, housing, design, and related fields approach dementia-inclusive design in both practice and education.

The survey takes around 15–20 minutes to complete. All questions are optional, and your insights will directly inform future guidance, training, and policy in this area.

Your perspective would be especially valuable, and we would greatly appreciate your contribution.

I would appreciate if would consider sharing this invitation with colleagues and contacts in your networks who may be interested.

Thank you for supporting this important work.

Kind Regards,

Dr Martin QUIRKE
