You will see I have set up a new page Discussion Forum for you to leave your responses to any of my posts. Having them appear in different places is difficult for me to manage, and respond to, so I felt it would be simpler to set up a new page for us to chat… don’t you just love the D-factor!! I look forward to our chats, and sincerely appreciate hearing from you, my wonderful readers.

Hi Kate – I went to a forum last night on “Ageing Today – Different Perspctives on Growing Old”. YouthWorx Productions showed a very short DVD on “age and identity”. It was a small snapshot of about 15 hours of interviews conducted with 10 older people and 10 younger people looking at intergeneralistion. Interesting to hear that the younger generation and the older generation seemed to have one common area to meet – public transport!! Anyway what I was reall thrilled about was that I go to speak with Ian Yates, CEO of the Council on the Ageing (Australia). I never miss an opportunity of speaking my concerns about the care of people with demenia/alzheimers and that the constraining of peope with dementia in dementia units is an abuse of their human rights. He ageed and said that they were looking at a UN Convention on the rights of the elderly. . What we really need to stress is that dementia/alzheimers is not just a disease affecting the elderly. Anyway have a beautiful day. Robyn Smith

Hi Robyn, Thanks for the news and information about the forum last night. It sounds like the issue of OUR basic human rights in the dementia setting, aged and younger onset, are at last being raised. This is very exciting, and I look forward to any further updates. My only other comment, is see you on the NEW Discussion Forum page next time!! xx
