The Lion King

My blog today is a change from the last couple, as I have recovered from my spoilt-attack, as one young son implied!!! Firstly though, I’m happy to say the conference has been worth every negative experience leading up to it including putting up with the accommodation. Of course, I should be 100% grateful we can afford to stay in reasonable accommodation in London, and don’t have to sleep on the streets, or move into the Astor Museum hostel where this particularly cheeky son lived for almost 12 months. I’m pretty sure the walls would tell too many stories, ones that a mother just would not want to hear!! And so,onto my cheerier topic. We watched The Lion King live in London’s West End on Tuesday night, and for us both it was arguably one of the best live shows we have ever seen. Not that I can remember in detail many shows we have seen now, but the memory of the experiences have remained. It is not what you say, but how you say it that people remember, and this applies to The Lion King. The costumes were spectacular, and the representations of the animals of the jungle truly quite amazing. The movie is one I watched a number of times on the big screen when it first came out, even though I didn’t have kids of an appropriate age to take with me! I recall it as being poignant, meaningful and highly entertaining, and the circle of life story remains the same in the live show. The live show easily represents the movie, and beautifully showed Simba find his way in his own life, overcoming his own hurdles and shortcomings. It led me back to a recent blog, Parents and expectations, and reminded me sometimes it is good to have expectations placed upon you by your family or others. Simba warmed to his eventually, and I guess we all do in some way throughout our lives, usually based on our love for someone else.

  1. My son lives in London and I go to visit him at Christmas time. But because it’s Christmas time, shows are always sold out (and we never wake up early enough to book tickets… well now for instance for next Christmas!). The Lion King is one that I’d particularly like to see. Lucky you.
