It is time for a reprieve from talking, thinking and writing about dementia, and instead to publish something more lighthearted! It is not easy to take a day off though, as it is in our face most of the time. It is just over a year ago (2 September 2012) that I set the goal to blog daily, and it commenced around the time I went to the Royal Adelaide Show with my niece and her two little boys. Today we have been there again, and have had great fun, spent a small fortune, and come home exhausted. With all the fun, it is not so easy to ignore the symptoms of dementia though, as the noise, the crowds, the oh so easy to get lost environment is a challenge. It is worth it though, as to see the faces of these dear little boys, brilliantly glowing with joy and love, is worth every moment of internal fear, and the tiredness and headache following this exciting event! The excited gleeful smiles and laughter, filled with trust and an absolute knowing we were all there to not only let them enjoy the day, but to look after them to the best of our ability. They believed in our will to keep them safe and fed and feeling valued and loved, with respect, and without any sense of duty or obligation. I did on occasion wonder why it is so much harder for society to love and care for the elderly. It is over for another year, and I hope we will all be there again!

It was nice to see you with your great nephews!

yes their happiness is delightfully infectious, and the relationship you have with them at that age is almost reverent…
