Yesterday I had a very lazy Sunday, something like the proverbial ‘day of rest’ my moderately fundamentalist Methodist upbringing endorsed! It is rare for me to hang out only watching rubbish on television, or reading for the sake of reading, rather than for a purpose.
Well, even reading for pleasure is reading with a purpose. It was good for me to switch off for the day, and although I always feel a little guilty for doing nothing, I realise I am doing something, i.e. resting and relaxing!
Our cats have the right idea, and the image is of the older one Star, in her favourite pose, asleep and resting, with her legs in the air. She is shameless with her almost promiscuous desire for cuddles! But they are both very relaxed and loving cats who know how to relax; in the heat we are having here today (38 C) they will sleep inside in the cool for most of it.
Many think it would be sensational if we had a Sunday in the middle of the week too, especially those of you who work! But I do wonder, what would life be like if we focused only on resting? I’ve always tried to ‘live every day as if it’s my last, just in case it is’, and do find achieving things that are important to me or that help others is as valuable as resting. The following quote really resonates with my thinking;
‘Each day is a little life: every waking and rising a little birth, every fresh morning a little youth, every going to rest and sleep a little death.’ Arthur Schopenhauer

I’m really glad you had a a good time yesterday ……… maybe you should schedule some more “me” time a bit more regularly ……… one day every fortnight? or even every month.
I think what you did yesterday is what I try to do when I’m watching TV ….. “enjoy the moment” ……… I’m remembering to do it a lot more now. So if I’m watching TV I actually make sure I’m smililng and enjoying it. And it actually reduces the pain I’m feeling at that moment too.

Your comment ‘enjoy the moment’ is perfect… no matter what we are doing, working, resting, sleeping, even spending time with people who are not at the top of our list.
