A courageous woman from Canada who lives with the diagnosis of a younger onset dementia wrote in a beautiful story titled The Red Cardinal;
‘I am getting off the couch and I am off to seize the day for I can place no trust in tomorrow.’ Mary Beth Wighton © 2013
It seems none of us can trust tomorrow, not just people with dementia, and her words fit well beside my mantras. I found this image with the embedded words on a blog called Gillmergirl-flying on the bike and she added this one on 27 December 2012. There is a large number of images with words portraying positive thinking on her site, and I recommend you swing by and have a look.
Separating the sad stuff from the positive things helps me focus more on the positive. I don’t ignore the negative, I write about it and get it out, kind of like removing the pus from an abscess, but in doing this daily, it enables me to be more positive and trusting of tomorrow. It might not work for you, but it really works for me.
So, I am off to seize the day so that tonight I will feel like I have lived today as if it was my last, and my focus is on living, not only on dementia and dying.

I have nominated you for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. See my site for details.

Kate,
I like how you acknowledge the sad stuff, but do not get caught up in it. Enjoy seizing the day!
