Accepted as a member of INTERDEM

Interdem is a pan-European network of researchers collaborating in research on and dissemination of Early, Timely and Quality Psychosocial Interventions in Dementia aimed at improving the quality of life
of people with dementia and their supporters, across Europe.

I am extremely delighted to have recently been accepted as a member.

INTERDEM’S MISSION:

  1. To develop pan-European research on Early, Timely and Quality Psychosocial Interventions in Dementia.
  2. To actively disseminate this and enhance practicepolicy and the quality of life of people with dementia and their supporters, across Europe.
  3. To place people with dementia and their supporters at the centre of European research and practice, by actively involving them in developing these activities.

Dear Kate,

It is my pleasure to welcome you as a new INTERDEM member. The board is very happy with you both as a expert by experience and patient advocate and, as a scholar. You are a real champion!

You will have a special status as an Australian member.

Kind regards,

Myrra Vernooij

Prof. Dr. M. Vernooij-Dassen

Chair Interdem, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Scientific Institute for Quality of Healthcare

I do hope one day to be able to take off my ‘expert by experience’ and ‘patient adocate’ hats, and to be seen first and foremost as a scholar in an organisation such as this. I was speaking to to a colleague at a research meeting in Lausanne recenly, and he mentioned to me, that ever since his wife (who is a health care professional) spoke publicly about surviving cancer, all she every gets asked to present on is that… perhaps it is the joy, or frustration of being public about living positively with any condition or disability.
