Blogs as ‘thermometers of wellness’?

Maybe that is what my blog has become for me, as I’m still struggling with having not properly published my blog from a week ago! I do seem to gauge, they same way as we checked the rain every day on the farm, how well I am doing. I know my husband and some of my family and friends also use my blogs as a way of keeping track of what is happening, and how I am doing. It is not always truly indicative of my daily reality, as often I post blogs I’ve been working on for days, weeks or months, and therefore they don’t necessarily tell the reality of my lived experience of dementia that day. However, this blog does act as a thermometer for me, as it quickly tells me in a tangible way how much I have to paddle to get through my day. Perhaps blogging (or writing/voice recording) could be used in dementia units and respite programs to better inform staff and families how someone is coping or managing, and as a way of gauging, to better assist with care, where a person is at on any given day. It would be wonderfully therapeutic for the person with dementia too. Just another idea for me or you to follow up on!

  1. It’d depend on their stage of dementia …… many / most would have lost the ability to write or even think clearly. Or am I wrong??

After all, if they are they for CARE then they are generally unable to think clearly for longer than some seconds, or if they can they’re not in a position to be able to document thoughts as a barometer of wellness because their thoughts are often not reality. For example most won’t know it’s time to eat dinner until you tell them etc.

    Know what I mean?
