Global Dementia Voices

Today I’m launching a new blog Global Dementia Voices to encourage people with dementia to tell their stories, to write about their concerns and to help those caring for them to more fully understand what it is really like for them. The idea came from meeting a woman who volunteers for Cancer Voices SA, a survivor of cancer herself, and rather than wait for the Australian Dementia Working Group to get off the ground, which the funding pool might dictate will be years, realised the power of harnessing the internet meant it didn’t have to wait. If you are a person with dementia, I would love for you to share your story, or even become a guest author, or if you know someone with dementia who you think would like to contribute, please pass this on. It might not become what I am dreaming of, but the first step is always the hardest!

  1. Wonderful idea, Kate. Stories are such a powerful, engaging way of raising awareness and, as you say, don’t have to wait for anyone or anything!

Here in the UK, two excellent bloggers who share their stories of living with dementia are Norman McNamara: http://bit.ly/Uym9FH and Ken Clasper: http://ken-kenc.blogspot.co.uk/

Good luck with this new initiative and I love your “first step” images. I notice the little girl at the end is picking herself back up … and she will very soon succeed. So will you!

    • Thanks for your support and the leads. I keep up with Norm, but have not seen Ken’s blog. Please pass this onto any of your networks. Cheers.
