In case you don’t realise Dementia is an awful disease, and can’t understand why people in the early stages of dementia and their loves ones fear what is ahead, watch this video. It is worthy of a being my second blog today.
It also shows the absolute depth of human love and committment by those people who love and support the people they love living with a diagnosis of dementia.
Whilst we [PWD] can still speak and have insight, we have even more reason to be fearful of what is ahead because we can understand it; those people accusing us of not having the disease merely adds to the cruelty of the disease.

There is so much of that I have already experienced, but I like the advice “slow and sweet”, almost a mantra to deal with this unreal disease.

The 4th floor was difficult. My father was late stage, but he still knew who everyone was. He needed help with all facets of daily living, however. I often find myself wondering whether he would have eventually forgotten us all. Including my mother. I wonder whether his leaving this earth before that happened was a blessing. For his family and for him. Or whether holding on, in whatever capacity, is something to strive for.
