Saturday poem: Star

Our Russian Blue cat

She is the most wonderful friend

Our beautiful loving companion

Unwell beyond words

Leukaemia or a lymphoma

And although some of the time

She doesn’t look or act sick

We won’t stop caring for her

Or believing her

We’ll nurse her until the very end

No doubts, no words defying the vet

With the option of a legal release

From all pain and suffering.

  1. I read your poem about Star with my deaf half-Persian cat Abu sleeping on my lap. When Mum’s dementia gets me down, my two cats offer all the therapy I need. Mum’s care home recently welcomed a kitten, Tom, to their family. Cats are truly a source of love and comfort.
