I am proud to call Jenny Potter my friend, and although I did not know her late husband Ralph, do know of the love they shared, and the impact dementia has had on their family. Jenny helped set up and runs a group called teamtlc that honours and supports people with dementia, their care partners and families.
The 2015 Dignity in Care Awards are proudly sponsored by the family of the late Ralph Potter,
and
Ralph Potter was the first person living with younger onset dementia I ever met. And boy did I make some assumptions the first time I spoke with Jenny! What I learned? Every person you meet with dementia is the first person with dementia you meet, each story is different and every person unique. I was so very privileged to walk alongside Ralph and Jenny – I’ll never forget the story Ralph told me without any words at all. I’m so proud to be part of this wonderful charge to create and maintain Dignity in Care. It doesn’t mean we won’t make mistakes along the way (in the words of Frank Sinatra, I’ve made a few). So I urge everyone out there to nominate the people and the organisations that make a difference to you – and I know Ralph is looking down from wherever beyond and smiling coz he made that difference to me and forever changed me.
