Redress project featured in the Australian Ageing Agenda

Once again, it’s been a while since I was here and although I have much to say, the time is not now to say it. But, I totally forgot to post this link a few weeks ago, so it can be todays blog post! Dr Linda Steele and I were recently interviewed about our research on redress for an article in Australian Ageing Agenda.

You can read Christopher Kelly’s full article below. You can read more articles by Christopher Kelly on the Australian Ageing Agenda website.

I also recently wrote a blog for this project, on the The significance of dementia as a disability in terms of redress for any form of violence includign sexual assault, abuse and neglect.

  1. Kate your so right, as is Prof Steel, nothing seems to be happening about these wrongs. The analogy’s mentioned are relevant. Why do our political reps ad our community in general not see that ‘secure units’ for people living with dementia really are illegal. Let alone the past two plus years with covid outbreaks and segregation. So wrong. Thanks for you never ending passion and energy 💜

    • Thanks! You are so rght, no one is addressing the abuse, violence and neglect, or, and appear not even even remotely interested in doing so! In fact, I believe, until everyone accepts dementia as the condition causing disabilities that it is, it will never change. To deny people with dementia the same rights under the CRPD (and other Conventions) as all other with disabilities, is a huge part of the problem. Ps. I’m stil passionate, but VERY dis-illusioned, so changing direction, for sure.
