Sadness

Yesterday I really wanted to blog about my very sick hospitalised friend, but to have done so would have meant there would have been no words at all, just tears. Hence the crazed focus on the NaNoWriMo goal in between hospital visits, phone calls and meetings with his other friends. He had another seizure, and this time it was much worse. Along with some of his other close friends, we cried and huddled around him for part of the day, and each other last night, worrying about what’s to come. Most days, his care still leaves a lot to be desired. Yesterday, even though he may not have been aware of his surroundings at all in the morning, a nurse touched, poked, and very roughly repositioned him, without once saying hello, addressing him by name, or telling him what he was about to do. He may as well have been a bag of chaff, being shifted onto a truck for sale! There were phone calls to make to family overseas, intrastate, as well as local friends. Tears were and still are flowing all around the world as we are watching and waiting. It is devastating to stand by, knowing there is nothing we can do, and watch someone you love waiting to have yet another seizure or something worse, and deteriorate further or die. Of course, no-one at the hospital can tell us what his future holds, but it looks grim. The sadness we are all feeling is intense as the tragedy of his deteriorating health and life is unfolding in front of our eyes. Today, all I can do other than to visit and hold his hand, is ask my guardian angel Sophia to provide him with as much love, comfort and peace as possible.
