Carol Burnett once said; Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own. It most definitely seems this is true, as almost every blog I write is interpreted differently, often quite differently to the way I meant for to it to be understood. Some people pick up on the funny things; some don’t see the funny things at all. Others think I am berating or ranting, whilst others simply think I am simply speaking out about something I believe in. Very occasionally I get some hate mail, other times a response almost like a love letter. Mostly I publish my responses, but occasionally I don’t. This might be because it is too personal, or too offensive, or someone has asked me not to, or I have decided it doesn’t fit the theme of my blog in general. Some of my blogs are like a journal of my life and not everyone finds this interesting. That’s okay too. Then there are others who recently cajoled me into continuing on with blogging, saying they would miss my thoughts and words. In an election, a vote of 50% would be an absolute landslide election win! So to have the occasional negative response is okay. Many times, someone responds with something that contests my own thinking. I particularly love this, as it makes me rethink whatever it was I was writing about. It isn’t always easy to accept, but I find it positive just the same. Thinking outside the square, thinking about things in new ways, these are really important to me. Thinking perse is important to me, and I have often felt like there are a lot of people out there who don’t think about things very deeply. I’m sure to be wrong about that too, as maybe I’ve just not tapped into those people, or not communicated with them at a deep enough level yet. Writing publicly has encouraged me to think more, to accept others opinions more willingly, to look in the mirror more courageously, and has helped me understand the world more deeply. Words once shared, do have a life of their own , and the path they can then take is so completely out of the writers control it can sometimes be alarming. Now, for me to stop writing would be equivalent to me giving up my battle against dementia, so regardless of the life my words might take on, I will continue on. For now, anyway!

DO NOT EVER GIVE UP WRITING ON YOUR BLOG, keep up the good work, yes as you said you will have negatives replies but the positives will always outway them,.

yes, writing is thearpeutic and as for the “haters” surely it is fear of their selves that drives one to put poison pen to paper (or email) ? I am waiting to articulate a concept to a Dr who has taken offense that I have not scheduled a meeting like a patient. Interesting people are really. I like Sally am shaking head at actions of other today

Yes, and I occasionally even shake my head at my own actions or reactions!!! But hopefully, I learn from them…

I find myself mulling over all manner of things in my head but it’s not until I write about them that I really sort out what is going on; the weakness or strength of the arguments cannot slip out of range so readily as they do in your head. But it is often confronting as it’s difficult for denial to take hold. Like my grandchildren who can’t help but say how it is, and totally without malice, your blogs are transparent and I find that comforting although the subject matter may be disturbing. I love your courage and candour, so please don’t contemplate giving up blogging.

What you say about the truth of children is so true, and I’m glad you find the candour in mine somehow comforting. Writing things down definitely sorts one’s thinking out and denial finds it hard to take a grip. Keep up your own good fight dear friend xx

Yes, the artist ( I mean artist as a generic term, not just visual artists) has no control over how her work is received by the viewer/reader/listener/etc. So Art (Writing/music/drama/dance etc) is actually a dynamic process, not a one way delivery of a product. Delicious.
Having said that, it would be really edgy to see ALL the comments on your site. Brave, yes, even risky, but Oh so much richer. Unless they are actually offensive of course!
Just a suggestion.
(Do you really get hate mail? “shakes her head in amazement”)

Yes, the delivery of the product, followed by the response, is delicious as you say! Sometimes a bit scarey, but always worthwhile. Usually the responses I don’t accept are offensive, or I feel, by accepting them would invite too much attention, if you know what I mean. Having stalkers is not my thing, and I have had tw oreal life ones many years ago, and it is very disconcerting. That being said, perhaps I’ll become more brave about it??
And yes, there has been hate mail (not too much thankfully) via this blog, which I don’t post online, becasue I feel it may invoke an over-reactive or over-protective response from others who follow my blog, and after all, it is just someone’s opinion! THe delete permanently button is there, so I say, why not use it occasionally! I do however, try to learn something from that type of response.
