The Australian Commonwealth Government has announced plans to commence a Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
The Royal Commission will focus on what governments, institutions and the community should do to prevent, and respond to, violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability.
The Commonwealth Government is seeking comments and suggestions on what the scope of the Royal Commission should be, to ensure it investigates the issues and areas that are most important to the community.
With many of you having lived experiences with disability or strong connections and knowledge of people with disability, your input into establishing the terms of reference for the Royal Commission would be valuable.
You may wish to consider sharing your views on the scope of the Royal Commission by completing theTerms of Reference survey (or type inwww.surveymonkey.com/r/LSXH77X) before Thursday 28 March 2019.
The survey website is also fully accessible and includes an easy-read guide and Auslan video to support people with disability and others to help shape this landmark process.
If you would like more information, please contact the survey hotline on 1800 880 052 or visit the Department of Social Services website (or type in https://engage.dss.gov.au/royal-commission-into-violence-abuse-neglect-and-exploitation-of-people-with-disability/).
