Dear Kate – thank you for Oliver Sachs insights into hallucinations. When my wife was in the later stages of Alzheimer’s disease she would sometimes see her long deceased parents waiting for her in the kitchen. Also, people on TV appeared to her as if they were actually in the room.
Perhaps Oliver’s most pertinent comment was about health professionals misdiagnosing hallucinations. As you have often said, the same still applies in misdiagnosing people living with dementia.
