DAI Webinar: Human Rights in Residential Aged Care

It is not too late to register for this important DAI Webinar, being held tomorrow, presented by Dr Linda Steele, BA, MPIL, PhD and Bobby Redman, BA, MA.

  • Wednesday, May 27, 2020 (USA/CA/UK/EU)
  • Thursday, May 28, 2020 (AU/NZ/JP/SGP/TWN)

Please note: it is one event, set in a number of different time zones.

About the Webinar: Dr Steele will discuss a recently completed project titled ‘Safe and Just Futures for People Living with Dementia in Residential Aged Care’ funded by a Dementia Australia Research Foundation Victoria Project Grant (with AI’s Richard Fleming, Lyn Phillipson and Kate Swaffer).

Through the lens of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the project explored (a) current barriers to liberty and community access for people living with dementia in residential aged care facilities, and (b) the possibilities and challenges of utilising a human rights framework to transform the living and support arrangements of people living with dementia at a structural level (including deinstitutionalization of aged care, recognition of legal capacity, community inclusion).

Bobby Redman will discuss the all-round benefits for people living with dementia to be involved in all aspects of research, and why this particular study is an example of good practice.
