The D-word is almost like the C or F words used to be, too upsetting to say out loud. The word dementia is simply too confronting or challenging to talk about or face up to for so many people. Not just the friends and family who don’t know how to cope with someone they love telling them they have dementia, but for the many people who do not want to face the possibility of having dementia themselves. Mostly this is because of the ignorance about, and the stigma associated with this hideous disease. I’m free writing today as it is difficult to find the words for my blog, and even finding this topic has taken a kong time. But what to write about it??? I think for today, this will have to do as the D-word is getting in the way!

Hopefully the key is in your first sentence, Kate “…like the C & F words used to be” – hopefully we will be talking past tense for the D-word, one day (hopefully soon); as knowledge and familiarity reduces the fear. Take care.
