As you know if you follow me here, my focus is on improving outcomes for people with dementia, including that dementia is a major cause of acquired disabilities globally, and we have a right to rehabilitation. I also campaign for deinstitutionalisation and desegregation, and for dementia to be included in the work of all disability and dementia organisations.
Deinstitutionalisation, as well as desegregation of people with dementia, who are also people with cognitive and multiple other disabilities, must be included in this work, and not left behind.
Dementia as a disability continues to be the biggest challenge I have faced as a campaigner, including for researchers, health care professionals, service providers, and, other organisations representing people with disabilities such as the International Disability Alliance, to include people with dementia in their work as people with #cognitive #disabilities.

Description:
As the biggest development and humanitarian aid donor in the world, the European Union (EU) is in a prime position to address the ongoing social exclusion and segregation of children, adults and older persons with disabilities in long-stay residential institutions. Despite the adoption and broad ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), including by the EU, persons with disabilities around the world continue experiencing institutionalisation, poverty, denial of education, exclusion from the labour market and inability to access mainstream services, among other. More transparency and better involvement of people with disabilities are key.
