Respectful Communities

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has developed a program to ensure their community of students and staff are included, valued and respected.

This is so much better than the dementia friendly initiatives, which has done so little to improve the respect and inclusion of people with dementia. Not have these initiatives reduced the stigma, discrimination, isolation and loneliness or paternalistic attitudes.

“The UOW Safe and Respectful Communities (SARC) team is committed to creating a safe and respectful environment across all campuses. The team provide a safe and supportive service for people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, genders, sex and sexualities who have witnessed or experienced:

  • Sexual assault
  • Harassment
  • Domestic violence
  • Bullying
  • Discrimination
  • Any other unreasonable behaviour

SARC will also investigate allegations of general misconduct and can provide advice and a supportive response to complex behavioural concerns.

SARC can provide support accessing emergency accommodation, counselling, financial support, academic consideration, victim services, community support services, reporting options including police, personal safety plans and access to advocacy. More details can be found in our Safe and Respectful brochure (PDF).
