Thanks to Ita Buttrose, AO, OBE, an Australian journalist, businesswoman, television personality and author, for inviting me to be interviewed on The Studio. Ita was the Australian Of The Year in 2013., and she is a true media Icon, an inspiration for all women of all ages, and a woman who I feel lucky enough to call a friend, maybe not as close as someone I nursed with or went to school with, but a colleague and friend, and someone who is as passionate and outspoken about improving dementia care and services as I am. Ita is never afraid to speak up, and is a little like the Jiminy Cricket sitting on my shoulder, telling me to keep going, when I wonder if I should stop speaking up. I was privileged to be interviewed by her on Channel 10’s The Studio, which aired today.

Professor Allan Mackay-Sim was a wonderful choice for a national winner of the AOTY, and we were all hoping for each other to win.
These last few days it was such a privilege to be amongst Australians who 100% support each other, rather than knock you down. I’m sure it is only a very small number of jealous and mean few, as most Australians are supportive, but my experience of becoming a state winner has brought out the best, and the very worst of humanity that is for sure.
