Unexpected consequences

It was recently Father’s Day in Australia, which for me, is possibly the the equal worst day of the year. For those of us who’s parents are or were abusive, it is not a great day. It actually hurts when the loving relationships are so publicly highlighted as if all relationships between children and parents…

Rejecting care?

Lee-Fay is a friend and colleague helping to reframe dementia. I only saw the recording recently, and it’s given me much to think about, and to do!…

Rethinking Dementia, 2020

Apologies this post was accidentally published yesterday, when is was meant for today, day 2 of #DAM2020! Arrgghhhh! It is easy to hit the wrong button! Anyway, onto much more important things. The need for everyone to rethink dementia continues to be highlighted in the many stories of neglect, abuse, restraint and deaths in Residential…

Horrified, but not surprised

Following my blog yesterday, Looking back, to move forward, I felt it important to highlight one comment made, as a separate blog. I had replied by saying I was saddened by such a comment, but not surprised. “A prominent ER doctor addressed an online group I was in developing guidelines for people with dementia admitted…

Looking back, to move forward

This blog started 9 years ago, and so I decided to review and add here, one post per year from August, to see what, if anything has changed, and also how my writing and thinking has evolved. My aim is to provide an authentic voice, to be a true advocate, and not to be persuaded…

Shocking.

Transcendental Meditation & Dementia

First published on my Living Beyond Dementia™️ website June 30, 2018. Anyone who follows this site knows I have been a believer in Bredesen’s Protocol, although I do have some healthy scepticism as well! In saying that, I believe if we don’t view dementia as a chronic disease, which brings with it acquired cognitive disabilities,…

Free: – from stigma for having dementia – from discrimination due to dementia – from confinement in nursing homes – from segregation in secure dementia units – from chemical restraint – from physical restraint – from Prescribed Disengagement®️ – from…

The alternative to being kind is not an option

I’ve been around mean people and they’re not pleasant to be around, not do I want to be like them.  Thankfully, or hopefully, I have learned to move away from the truly unkind people who have consistently bullied, abused, harmed or betrayed me… and I will continue to question most things!
